#81Before31: Let's Begin!

I recently came up with a goal that I need to achieve before I turn 31. And that is to visit all 81 provinces of the Philippines.

81 provinces. That's a lot of traveling to do, I know. Though I've already been to several places in the country, I am barely halfway through the list. That just gave me the urge to visit the must-see places and explore less-traveled destinations. And I figured it would be good to record all these experiences and share them with people.

And so the goal was set and this blog was born.




So what's in it for me? Lots of thoughts are running in my head. Am I looking for an adventure? To fulfill a sense of accomplishment? I guess it's the idea that I still know VERY LITTLE about my country. That there's still more to learn about its culture and people -- the language that the people speak, the food that each region has to offer, the rich history of these places, and so much more.

I would love to see the different faces of the Philippines. I want to frolic in its pristine waters, spend a weekend camping in its forests, and conquer every summit that I can reach.

Don't be misled though. I am not a rich kid -- I work my ass off and I pay for my own travel costs. I always travel on a shoe-string budget. I wait like a cat for airline seat sales to save on transportation. I prefer walking or renting a bike than going around places in a cab. I choose stay in low-cost fan rooms or backpacker inns over expensive hotel accommodations. I often create my own itinerary and do my own research versus purchasing travel packages to save more.

I realize that traveling with a goal is like giving my soul a therapy. It's really good to be away from the concrete jungle and the city madness every now and then, and at the same time marvel at what the Philippines can offer to adventure seekers like me.

Armed with a measly camera and a heart that's ready to explore, I accept the challenge. #81Before31, let's begin!
